    Full Text Indexing Intermittently Causes Unusually High CPU Usage
    Product:
    Lotus Domino > Lotus Domino Server > Version 5.0
    Platform(s):
    Platform Independent
    Doc Number:
    1094899

    Problem

    You set up Domino R5 Domain Indexing with a large file system and allow the server to run. If you monitor the CPU with the Task Manager, you find that 90% of the CPU is consumed by KVOOP even after the server has been shut down. Additionally, you find that KVOOP.EXE consumes large amounts of system memory during the update of a full-text-indexed database where the indexing property "Index Attachments" is set to "ON" (Filtered).

    Solution
    This issue was reported to Lotus Software Quality Engineering and has been addressed in Domino 5.0.11 and Domino 6.0.

    Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Domino Release 5.0.11 MR fix list (available at http://www.lotus.com/ldd):

    SPR# PMGL4Y5REK - Provided a fix to Full Text Indexing that will prevent an occurrence of unnecessary CPU usage.

    Supporting Information:

    Note that the memory spikes do not crash the system, the full-text-index update eventually completes, and system resource utilization returns to normal.

    KVOOP is part of the KeyView application that Notes uses to filter attachments when full text indexing.
